When I began my role at ModCloth I first started out by getting to know my team and the others we collaborated with to understand what our needs were. As an early-stage startup, the product development team as a whole was still forming its practice and process. In order to assist the user experience design team as well as the broader product and engineering teams, I created this poster as a large 14-foot print that was displayed in our work area.
I had three goals I aimed to support: 1) help educate the entire organization as to the user experience design process; 2) give designers a tool to help plan their process and communicate it to their teammates; 3) give cross-functional teams a common framework to plan and discuss their progress throughout the life of a product development cycle. The poster was successful on all three points; teams actively used the poster to plan their work and align on process.
