As the Director of Experience Design at ModCloth, I most enjoyed mentoring new designers to help them grow in their careers. I saw a 100% retention rate after hiring my team. These talented designers and engineers have since gone on to take lead and directorial roles at Zillow, Google, Twitter, and innovative startups. My team included user experience, visual design, and UX development spanning intern to principal levels. My leadership strategy was an individualized, pedagogical methodology that encouraged learning and growth.
Our focus in developing the user experience was on the intersection of content, community, and curation. Unique products such as the Style Gallery were knitted into the core shopping experience so that a customer could discover new curated content within the context of the task flow she was already focused on.
While at ModCloth, I directed the vision for the ModCloth brand across the ecosystem of devices and platforms to ensure that our customers had a consistent, intuitive, and delightful experience throughout a relationship to the brand that spanned the purchase lifecycle and beyond.
I oversaw a site-wide re-architecture and redesign; the development of our proprietary ecommerce site across both desktop, mobile, and later responsive websites; our award-winning iPhone and Android apps; the development of unique new products such as the “Style Gallery” and “Fit For Me,” and also the design of our proprietary backend systems controlling supply chain, merchandising, and inventory.
